Anthemion Hat

  This close-fitting beanie has a contrasting band of color at the lower edge, which sprouts groupings of radiating petals reminiscent of the palmette or anthemion designs used in Greek architecture. It is crocheted in one piece from the crown to the brim, with spike stitch clusters creating the anthemion motifs. This is a quick project and one skein of each color is enough to make multiple hats. Try making it in a bulky wool for a warm winter hat that will foreshadow the coming spring.

Main Color: 60(70, 80) yards aran weight yarn

Contrast Color: 15 yards aran weight yarn

Size I crochet hook

Stitch marker

GAUGE: 11.5 sts by 10 rows = 4" in half-double crochet

Note: yarn shown usually knits at 16-18 sts to 4" in Stocking Stitch

FINISHED SIZE: child(adult small, adult large)
