I first learned the basics of crochet around age three and knitting around five.  My attention soon moved to cross stitch, sewing, and other crafty pursuits, then I re-taught myself to knit while I was in college.  I studied theatrical costume design and worked as a costume designer in and around San Francisco for several years.  The research I have done in historical clothing is a strong influence on my design sense, and many of my patterns reference styles from the 1920s through the 1960s.  My designs tend toward garments with clean lines and intriguing details that are interesting to knit and easy to wear.

By day I am the store manager of Artfibers in San Francisco and I regularly teach knitting and crocheting classes there.  Being exposed to so many beautiful fibers and so many creative people every day keeps me inspired.  I have been designing most of the projects that I knit and crochet for years and often get asked for patterns, which has led to the creation of Kira K Designs.

The ladies of Stash and Burn interviewed me about Artfibers, my designs, and knitting as a vegan on the 16th episode of their podcast.
